Interference Sensing Solutions builds single-photon air analysis sensors that classify each airborne particle by size, shape and optical composition — in real time, across roughly 0.2 to 10 µm.

02 / 06 — THE GAP

Detail particle identification.

Conventional dust and aerosol monitors infer particle properties in the air from their brightness when illuminated by a light source. They can at best tell you how much dust is present and provide an educated guess about their size, but not what it is. A hazardous fibre and an inert one are counted alike.

On a worksite, that is the difference that matters.

03 / 06 — WHAT WE DO

Single-Photon Aerosol Analysis.

Our technology — Single-Photon Aerosol Analysis — reads the full scattering pattern of each individual particle as it passes the sensor and classifies it by size, shape and refractive index.

The result is identification, particle by particle: the instrument reports what each particle is, as it happens, rather than a bulk average of how much is present. No sample collection, no laboratory wait.

04 / 06 — WHERE WE ARE FOCUSED

A beachhead, and beyond it.

Asbestos and remediation — our first market.

Real-time monitors on the market today cannot tell an asbestos fibre from a harmless one, so abatement crews still depend on slow laboratory analysis to clear a site. Regulation is moving in the same direction: since 1 January 2024, asbestos-abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and every worker certified.

Beyond the beachhead.

The same per-particle method extends to respirable silica in mining, early detection of wildfire smoke, and airborne-pathogen monitoring in clinical settings — each a case where knowing which particles are present, not merely how many, changes the decision.

Built on TRIUMF physics.

Interference Sensing Solutions is commercialising detector technology developed at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle-accelerator centre, in Vancouver.

Founded by Fabrice Retiere, who developed the underlying detector at TRIUMF.
